fabrics and cutting....

These are the fabrics I am going to use to make the mystery at Quiltnieuws. This magazine of the dutch quiltersgild publiced my mystery....I have to make it as well!

Upcoming weekend we are going to sew our sampler for the book My secret garden. After designing all the other quilts (and their blocks) we know what we can use for the sampler. The sampler contains four seasons, is 90 x 90 inch (yes, a big one) and the fabrics you see above will be used for a lot of triangles. At the right you can see a  little part of the design.

Designing quilts and writing a book is not only about nice quilts, but you have to count all the pieces, used fabrics...and you have to do a lot of sewing as well.

And we have to think in inches and yards...that's not easy during the designing progress. To make a quilt in inches instead of centimeters is not a problem: other ruler and another foot for the machine...

But to think in inches gives problems with you imagination....how big is 90 inch? You have to calculate to centimeters to know, to get a good impression of the work.

De lapjes voor de mysterie uit Quiltnieuws liggen klaar. Uiteraard felle kleurtjes, heerlijk om ze bij elkaar te zien liggen. Verder hard aan het werk voor de sampler van het boek. Daar komt meer bij kijken dan alleen maar lekker naaien...hoeveel stof hebben we berekend? Hoeveel gebruiken we? Teveel, te weinig opgeschreven? Kloppen de aantallen en de maten van de mallen? Heel veel lijstjes met sommetjes en berekeningen voordat het patroon klaar is! Het naaien kan beginnen, pen en papier liggen in de buurt om tips en aantekeningen te noteren.

En de huisjes? Tot mijn verrassing ben ik tot gisteren helemaal bij. Tijdens het werken aan andere projecten stik ik de naadjes er even tussendoor. Kan ik weer even nadenken en opeens zijn ze klaar!
